Jose Rodriguez Cesenas

Jose has been with Sovereign since 2004 and co-lead the education sector team. Prior to Sovereign, he covered international operations and M&A transactions on behalf of the Banking & Securities Commission in Mexico and worked with CDC Capital Partners (now Actis).
Jose works on the investment side, but also works closely with the Research & Origination team. This collaboration means that he can make best use of the vast amount of sector knowledge, as well as Sovereign’s network, to support the businesses and management teams they back.
Over the years Jose has been responsible for a number of platform investments in the education sector including WCL, Lifetime, BIMM and Astrum Education Group; he also currently works with portfolio business Xendo. There approach is on building business through Buy & Build and business enhancement – whatever’s right for that company; it’s this approach that contributed to the successes of Alpha Plus Education and SENAD where he had the opportunity to work with management to deliver the growth strategies and subsequent exits of these businesses.
Jose has a BA in Economics from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and an MBA from London Business School. Jose has dual nationality for the UK and Mexico.
