Tim Richardson

Head of Primary, Dubai International Academy

Tim has been involved in international education as a primary school teacher and school leader for 22 years.

Originally from Devon, Tim grew up overseas and apart from a 4 year interlude at St. Lukes, Exeter for his education degree, has lived abroad since he started Primary School in the 1970s. Currently Head of Primary at Dubai International Academy, Tim supports outstanding PYP teaching and learning for 1134 children, 70 teachers and 30 support staff. As a school leader, Tim sees his responsibility as creating and maintaining a school environment that allows teachers to live the IB Learner Profile and be (amongst others) knowledgeable, open minded, reflective, risk-taking teachers with a passion for life-long learning.

DIA has been working hard to develop its assessment suite, marrying the school’s needs with local statutory requirements in order to provide students, teachers, parents, school leaders and regulatory bodies with the information they need to improve learning. In his presentation, Tim hopes to share some of the questions that have guided the school’s decisions to date and provide some examples of how assessment has become a powerful tool for his teachers.
