Michel Khoury

Director, Eastwood International School

ichel was born into education: his father, Amine Michel Khoury, founded Eastwood at age 19, in response to his own unsatisfactory school experience.

Michel graduated from Eastwood in 1997, and achieved a BBA in 2001 from Goizuetta

Business School at Emory University before pursuing an MBA at Columbia, including an MA in International Educational Development in Finance and Planning. He graduated top of his class and was awarded the Kappa Delta Pi by The International Honor Society in Education for his achievements in educational financial restructuring.

It was in the US that Michel remarked the benefits of a holistic approach to education. He noticed that an emphasis on well-roundedness gave children skills that could be adapted over a lifetime, while, in Lebanon, children were still memorizing large amounts of information, a redundant practice in the Internet age. That’s why, today, at Eastwood, students are taught the latest technology and are expected to develop the mindset of working on a global stage.

This passion for technology would continue throughout Michel’s career. Eastwood is the first (and still the only) school in the Middle East to introduce a full iPad program for all age groups, as well as coding for Early Years and Elementary Students. Eastwood’s Ivy League acceptance rates have increased by almost 80 percent, and Eastwood has won AUB and LAU’s School of the Year six years in a row.

A few years ago, Michel was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator. This is a title awarded to a select few that have an exciting, pioneering approach to Apple technology in the classroom.

Michel has also been working in partnership with Harvard, to deliver extensive professional development to his young and enthusiastic team of brilliant educators.
