Prof. Arfah Salleh

Prof. Arfah Salleh, Vice Chancellor, UNITAR International University

Professor Dr Arfah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, a Master’s degree in Finance and Investment and a PhD in Accounting Education and Courseware & Systems Design. She is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Fellow member of CPA (Australia).

She brings with her a wealth of experience as an academic with administrative capability and close linkage with industry and regulatory bodies.

Prior to joining UNITAR, she was the first President & Chief Executive Officer and Professor of Human Governance at Putra Business School from 2012. Leading a team that novated a former faculty of a public university into an autonomous private entity of university status administered by a not-for-profit Foundation made her among a few Malaysians with such experience. Before that, Professor Dr Arfah had been the Dean of the Graduate School of Management, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) besides being the Co-ordinator of the research-based PhD and MSc programmes as well as member of the UPM Senate.

Pioneering innovation in computer-based teaching of basic accounting since the late eighties, her commercialised courseware has earned her an international patent as well as several accolades. Her engagement with the accounting profession, industry and government includes: having served as a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board; member of Deloitte industry-academic initiative; and advisor to the Ministry of Education in curriculum development and teachers’ training, among others.

Professor Dr Arfah has also been active in the Malaysian Higher Education accreditation scene serving before, as a panel member of the SETARA rating of universities and university colleges. Internationally, she has sat in committees of the US- and Japanese-based global business schools accreditation bodies contributing to the direction setting of member schools. She was also Adviser for the ICT implementation in accounting programme at Tampere University of Applied Science, Finland.

Today, Professor Dr Arfah advocates human governance not just as a founding philosophy to academic programmes, but to public and private sectors for implementation as a total management system. The book entitled “Human governance - A paradigm shift in governing corporations” and monograph on “Soulful Stewardship” co-authored with Aziuddin Ahmad have triggered the disruptive thinking to the conventional command control rule-based corporate standard, bringing back the need to BE-ing human. “
